"I've been thinkin' 'bout where I'm at,
on my not so straight and narrow path.
All the generous and mostly underserved blessings that i've had.
I had an all-american mom and dad.
Some of the coolest friends you could ever have.
Found love I thought I'd never find,
sometimes I can't believe this life is mine.
And I'm not planning on leavin' yet,
but the truth is, you just never know.
And if this is as good as it gets..
Man I think i'm good to go."
I love this song. The song starts out with him seeing a funeral precession and he starts to think about all the blessings that he has in his life. Every time I sing this song it makes me think about all the beautiful things that I was blessed with in this life. Amazing family, a great job, great health, amazing friends, stability.. I couldn't ask for more.
Have you ever seen something that makes you just sit back and count your blessings? Maybe someone getting pulled over on the side of the road? Seeing an ambulance at an old folks home? Walking through a cemetery and seeing a child buried?
This is a crazy life that we live in. Something could happen in the blink of an eye... something that could change your life forever. Once I lost my grandma- I learned this. Nothing is really the same. Holidays are just weird, basketball season is weird, and I just miss the long talks about everything with her. Things change within the blink of an eye... But sometimes, there are positives.
I now have an amazing relationship with my grandpa, one that I have never had before. He has really come out of his shell and stepped up. I am so proud of everything that he has accomplished since last year. He is such a strong and inspiring man, I am so proud to be his blood.
I also got to rekindle relationships with family from the other side of the states! One of my cousins from out there I am especially happy we caught up. Her name is Mary and she is a huge inspiration to me. She pushes so hard to be an amazing mother, wife, friend, cousin, daughter... She is truly an inspiring person and I wish that I could see her more, but I am glad that we share a great bond, I wouldn't trade it for anything.
I wish that everyone out there took the time to count their blessings. You have more than you think you do. Think about the things you have that money cannot buy... those are the things that make you rich.
Having money is nice- yes. But it isn't everything. Having a family and friends to turn to when things get tough is where true happiness is.
I HAVE EXCITING NEWS!
I am going to start something new everyday now. It is going to be a daily challenge. One of those "do something everyday..." things. I will post it at the end of each post. Sometimes it will be something that has to do with the post, and sometimes not. I will keep an ongoing tab to the left of the date and the challenges under "Daily challenges" :) I will also be posting MY results to the challenges!!
After you do your daily challenge- leave me a comment or send me an email to let me know how it went and what you did! I am very eager to see how these turn out! :)
You know what you should do to challenge yourself today?
Write a list of everything that makes you feel blessed- but ONLY things that money cannot buy!
