Take Donald Trump for instance, in my opinion, the next best thing that could happen to our country, but there are people out there who dislike him. You know what is sad about this? All of the amazing things that he will do for this country won’t be spoken about on television or on your Facebook news feed. Why? Easy, because the media listens for what they want to hear. Example: Trump is asking for a moratorium on Muslims entering the United States until we have a more detailed protocol on checking backgrounds of those entering our country. Yet, the media says he wants to ban all Muslims and they leave it at that… see how that got switched around?
But it’s funny because this hasn’t stopped him. All of the negative attention; he can take with a grain of salt because he knows he is a good man and he knows what this country needs. Should he bite his tongue at times? Sure. Do I cringe sometimes with what comes out of his mouth next? Yes, he keeps everyone on their toes. But it is refreshing to have somebody who is not feeding us bullshit in the name of appeasing the people. Am I right? This post is not to tell people to vote for Trump. If you don’t like him, that is fine, don't vote for him, I completely respect your opinion (all I ask is that YOU make that decision, don't let the media make it for you).
Don’t listen to everything you hear or read through the media. I read online the top 10 worst college degrees to obtain, some including; fine arts, sociology, psychology, communications, and criminal justice. But you know what I say? If you are currently pursuing any of these degrees, or you want to pursue one in the future, DO IT. There is nothing wrong with studying what you love or what you find interesting. Just because someone thinks that your degree is worthless, does NOT mean it is. We need Psychologists. We need communication majors for MANY different fields. I am sure there are hundreds of people out there who think it is ridiculous of me to pay $500 to apply to a Graduate school that I might not get into. And yeah, maybe it IS ridiculous… but I am going to do it anyways. Why? Because; that is what I want to do with my life. I think you are strong for going against the odds, I believe you are doing the right thing… you are following your heart.
So there you go. You need to remember that no matter what you say or what you do, people are going to hear and see what they want. And guess what? So are you. You are going to look at every obstacle. You are not going to look at how far you have come and you aren’t going to look at everything you have going for you (which is more than you think). You need to believe that you are doing everything you can to reach you goals. If you cannot believe that you are doing everything you can, then unfortunately, you probably aren’t.
You are unstoppable. There may only be ONE reason. One positive reason as to why your plans will work… but that one reason is enough. Forget everything that everybody says. Forget what you read online. Believe in YOURSELF and believe in what YOU want to believe in. As long as you believe in yourself, you will get where you need to go. You could have the entire world on your side and I know that wouldn’t be enough. If you never believe in yourself, you’re not going to be able to get where you want to be.
Constructive criticism. Not everyone can take it. Personally, I love taking constructive criticism because it helps me better myself. Earlier I had a breakdown to my mom about how I wasn’t going to be able to make it to Grad school. She told me a few different times that the only words coming out of my mouth were negative. I tried a few different times to tell her that wasn’t true but then when I took a step back, I realized she was right. I realized that I was making myself feel the way I was feeling. All of the reasons why I couldn’t get into Grad school got the better of me. Sure, there are reasons as to why I wouldn’t be able to get into some schools, but there are also reasons why I could get into some schools. It is all about how you look at things and what you decide to look at.
My mom gave me the inspiration for this post because at the end of our talk she said, “Okay Ky. What if Justin was working towards something for 4 years and then decided he just wanted to give up. What would you say to him?” “Easy. I would tell him he isn’t giving up. I would tell him that he has put too much effort in just to give up now.” At this point my mom just looked at me. I didn’t let her say another word, I quickly ran to my computer.
If I were to give you advice right now, I would tell you not to give up. If I were to give myself advice right now, I would tell myself not to give up.
