Have you ever taken the time out to think about how society has evolved? I was listening to Automatic by Miranda Lambert and I just miss so many things that....just aren't a thing anymore.
Do you remember when there was no such thing as a 'good morning' or 'good night' text? We will call each other wish them a good day, either see them, or talk to them on the phone that evening?
Do you remember when you had time limits on the computer, because your parents made you go outside and play? (Or... maybe that was just my grandma because she got tired of us. Hahaha)
Do you remember when a guy could kiss his girlfriend on the cheek as a sign of respect, instead of 'making out' every time in public, when they were finished hanging out?
Do you remember planning time out to watch the new episode of your favorite TV show.... because you couldn't just record it?
Do you remember going to the store to buy the new HIT CD?
Do you remember passing notes in elementary school? Then passing notebooks back in forth in middle school?
Do you remember waking up every morning and having your mom pack your lunch for school?
Do you remember when playing on a sports team was about learning about teamwork and competing, not learning to let your parents make the coach play you?
Do you remember your parents making you eat what they cooked for dinner? ...There wasn't any other option besides a PB&J.
Do you remember when kids had amazing imaginations, not amazing skills with smart phones?
Here's a good one... Do you remember when people used their manners?
Do you remember when the divorce rate was not above 50%?
Do you remember taking pictures to the store to get them developed?
I remember doing multiplication flashcards everyday in the summer with my grandma... Not using some online program.
I remember only being able to have one snack after lunch at grandma's house, not eating everything available in the pantry.
I remember one of my favorite things about going to buy a new CD was getting the pictures and lyrics book inside.
I remember when cyber bullying became a big ordeal.
I remember when I had a boyfriend, I got butterflies every time we talked because it wasn't all day, everyday we talked.
I remember my grandma locking my cousins & I outside so we could get exercise in outside and get some sunlight.
I remember at sleepover staying up late, talking about boys, making prank calls, and eating junk food until a parent came inside and told us it was time for bed....which of course, we stayed up talking.
Society has really evolved when you think about it. Cell phones that allow you to do everything and anything? "There's an app for that"
It makes you really wonder how our grandparents used to live without all of this crazy technology. Now with all the e-books, putting checks in the bank from your phone, and ordering pizza from the internet... I can't tell if these new additions to society are helpful or lazy.
There is only one thing that I miss from being a child, but society really has nothing to do with that... No worries, no cares, a free mind. I still have an imagination and I still have somewhat of a free mind but, there is really no such thing as a summer anymore. When you work full time all summer, "TGIF" and "SUMMER" don't really have too much meaning anymore. There are still things to worry about. No complaints here- I live a very happy and free life, it's just sometimes it makes you wonder have amazing life would be without this change in society and technology.
Just some food for thought... I can't help but wonder with the world will be like in 20 years. Will we find a cure for cancer? A machine that will make us skinny? A button we pressed when we are hungry, and we just, wouldn't be?
